t me tell you about my beginning. Well at least the part mama knows about! If you can believe it, my siblings and I were left beside the road in a cardboard box! Yup you read right! And boy was it hot in that box in KY! We were all pretty skinny and really really hungry! Luckily somebody found us and reached out to ACDRA hoping they could help us out! So here we are! My sister and I landed in upstate NY, they told us it would be cooler but they lied! Let me tell you more about myself since arriving here in NY! I am living with nine other dogs (one is my annoying sister Kaya, can't wait for her to move out). The others range in age from 3-13 years and I have learned pretty quickly which ones are cranky senior citizens. I don't even try to play with them as they let me know pretty quickly there were not up to puppy antics. The younger ones are all right though and we have been having some pretty good play time! I am working really hard on potty training and have only had a few accidents inside when mama doesn't pay attention to my signals. I sleep pretty well through the night in my crate with my sister or sometimes on the couch with mama as I really like to snuggle up close and I really like a soft pillow to put my head on! I have discovered toys and they are a lot of fun, especially when I can tug them away from my sister. Nylabones are pretty fun and keep my teeth busy. I really like bully sticks too! I really do like to roll in the grass and love to explore so mama thinks when I get big enough I will really make a great hiking partner. Mama says I should mention I do have an "off" switch and do not have to be on the go all the time, I am up for a good movie night on the couch. If you think I will be a great addition to your family, hit up the website and submit an application. My foster mom is happy to answer any questions; just send her an email at mrulffesgmail. Don't wait too long as mama says a boy this handsome is gonna have more than one family that wants to make him the newest addition to their family! Foster mom here! Koda and his sister have been two of the easiest puppies we have fostered. They don't chew, are housetraining pretty quickly, sleep through the night, play well with all of our dogs (except the two cranky seniors) and love to be touched and loved on. He has had all age appropriate vaccines, but will need boosters down the road. He is microchipped and will come with a neuter contract. He is being fostered in Canton, NY but please don't let distance deter you, we are always willing to drive a few hours to get him to the perfect home! Please contact mrulffesgmail. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
