rsquo;s sleek and shiny like a new black car, sweet as a cotton candy and her love surrounds people and other dogs like a velvety soft blanket. She starts a bit shy but wait until she knows you and love will know no bounds! Rory thought she was settled into life as a loved puppy but recently found herself in an unsafe situation that she desperately needed help to get out of, so Haven Rescue took her in immediately that night! Her foster was pleasantly surprised to find out this petite 50 pound baby, although scared wanted to securely snuggle herself on her lap and let the storm pass! Next, she met other resident dogs, and that tail has not stopped wagging since! In her foster home, Rory currently lives with dogs from 35 to 155 pounds and is fantastic with all of them. In addition, this gentle soul has also been around children from 4 months to 8 years old and adores them. Besides her people this beauty loves her toys, playing tug with other dogs, chewing on bones, car rides and is learning the deliciousness of peanut butter! Plus bonus, Rory is potty trained and crate trained! Last week Rory was spayed and since shepherds are particularly prone to hip issues, we proactively had them X-rayed. It was confirmed that she does indeed have some hip dysplasia but is a candidate for a future FHO, the cost of which will be covered by Haven Animal Rescue Nebraska at our vet when she is slightly older. Other considerations are easy, just simply keep the weight off of her and don’t try to make her a long distance runner. She can run and play with other dogs like normal and be the loving family dog she is meant to be! There will be no more surprises for Rory, until her forever home comes along and falls in love with this amazing pup! She’s so full of love for everyone and if you think you could be the best surprise of all for Rory, please fill out an adoption application at .HavenAnimalRescueNebraska to meet her! ADOPTION DONATION: $400 *ALL DOGS MUST BE INSIDE COMPANION ANIMALS! They are all up to date with vaccinations, altered, microchipped, HeartWorm tested, and on preventatives. PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
