a good snuggle or hug. She’s happiest as the only dog in the home her love is meant just for you! Sassy enjoys both sturdy store-bought toys and simple homemade ones (an old knotted blanket is a favorite). She likes her food and toys and isn’t interested in sharing, so a single-dog home is a must. When she gets excited, she may forget her manners and stand up placing her feet on the counter— but a simple “Off!” cue gets her right back on track, especially if she has a soft toy to keep her busy. Without one, she’ll happily greet you with her signature leg hug instead! After a few minutes of excitement, Sassy settles into a relaxed walk on a loose leash. She is generally calm and well-mannered on leash, usually ignoring other dogs as long as they keep their distance and not lunging at passing people or dogs. Sassy enjoys being outside when it’s cool or in the evening, though her dark coat can make her a little hard to spot at night. She has near-perfect recall during the day but can turn “come inside” into a playful game once it’s dark. She loves exploring her surroundings and finding a cool spot to rest during her outdoor adventures. Sassy doesn’t have a strong prey drive but does have some hunt training with an e-collar. Because she’s a smart and active girl, a secure 6-foot physical fence is an absolute must for her. Sassy is a playful French Brittany who will thrive with an active family ready to keep up with her. She loves to run and chase tennis balls until your arm falls off — though she prefers to carry the ball around the yard before deciding to drop it. After plenty of exercise, she settles down nicely to relax on the couch or anywhere her people are. Sassy is not a fan of cats, and because she gets so excited when greeting people, small children should be approached with caution to avoid accidental knock downs. She’s a typical high-energy French Brittany, full of spirit and charm and longing for love. Sassy is located in northwest Georgia and can be transported up to 1400 miles via our Canine Railroad. Her adoption fee is $400 to offset the cost of vetting and to help other Brittanys in need. Adoption applications can be found on our website at .nbran. Our adoption process requires a phone interview, a home visit, and a veterinary reference. For more information, email brittsnbitsgmail.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
