ut an Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. MEET MISS PUPPY! This sweet senior teacup Poodle is available for adoption! Miss Puppy was rescued from a crowded Mexican shelter where she was being given no attention. Literally, she was just saved from the street, and lay quietly in a corner. When ARWOB first met her, both her hair and nails were severely overgrown, she was dirty, had severe dental issues and was not spayed. Also, Miss Puppy is totally blind. She also has bilateral MPL Grade 4 which means that her kneecaps are out of place all the time, and there is no amount of manipulation that can return them to their proper spot. She can certainly walk, but her gait is stiff. Surgical repair for grade 4 is not a guarantee to be fixed and given her age is not an option. She has no problem moving around her environment and enjoys moving around.Because she relies on her nose for navigation, she also has her head down when she walks. Or maybe she’s just trolling for dropped food! Since she was first rescued, she’s had professional grooming, a dental and spay surgery, and is thriving even with her limitations. She has lived the entire time in a home with another dog and a cat. She gets along with both very well, and has mapped the house. She can find her food, water and all available dog beds with no problem. She has a healthy appetite, and scarfs her twice a day meals. She has been on CBD for her gait issues and Senilife as a preventative, since she is getting older. Miss Puppy knows where her potty spot is outside the doggy door. When the doggy door is closed, she wears a diaper. She also wears one overnight since she has no access to the outside. It has been wet once or twice, but is mostly dry. She has not had a poop accident in the house. She goes potty every 2-3 hours when she can. Miss Puppy’s favorite thing is to be near her human. She snuggles up to people, and can sleep in that spot happily for hours. She also loves to mount pillows on the couch to get up to her “lookout” position on the couch’s arm, but has never attempted to step off. She is always supervised when she does this. This dog has so much life and love left in her. She needs a loving, understanding home that will be patient as she learns her way around. Gentle and non-reactive dog and cats would make great friends. Adopt Miss Puppy! To do so, please fill out an online application at .arwob to get the process started right away. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
