They can be independent but also deeply devoted to their people once they feel secure. With the right structure and love, terriers are trainable, affectionate, and make excellent family companions. Goldie’s terrier side gives her a curious spark—now she just needs someone to help her channel it. Goldie’s Story & Personality: Goldie is still discovering what it means to be loved. We believe she may have spent much of her life in a large crate or pen, possibly raising puppies, without the individual affection and training she needed. Because of that, she’s shy at first and a little unsure of new people or situations—but she’s trying her best and making progress every day. She’s working on housetraining and does well being left alone in her pen setup. She’s not destructive and finds comfort in the predictability of her space. Goldie enjoys other dogs and has shown herself to be polite and social once she gets to know them. She hasn’t been tested with cats, but her gentle personality suggests she could learn with proper introductions. Goldie is mouthy in a puppy-like way—not out of aggression, but simply because she was never taught appropriate play. She doesn’t yet know basic commands, so we’re looking for someone patient and familiar with positive training techniques. Goldie is incredibly sweet and loves to be near her person—she could absolutely be a cuddly lapdog in time. Goldie’s Ideal Home: A patient, dog-savvy adopter who can offer structure and kindness A fenced-in yard for safe exploration An adult or family home with respectful, gentle children Another friendly dog would be a great role model Someone who’s ready to teach her the joys of being a pet A calm environment where trust can grow at her pace Ready to Help Goldie Discover the Good Life? Goldie is learning, healing, and slowly stepping into the light. She needs someone who sees beyond her hesitation and understands how to build confidence with love and patience. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and the joy of helping a sweet girl discover how good life can be, Goldie is waiting for you. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: crisisdogsnc/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
