need the safe and happy life they all deserve. Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable. Adopting a friend: The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography. What you need to do to adopt: If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets: An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes. My name is Creek. And I am a mama. I never asked for this life—being alone, being afraid—but when I had my babies, I knew I had a purpose. I was going to protect them. I was going to love them every day of their lives. But then… something terrible happened. One of my puppies—my sweet, wiggly, full-of-joy baby—was taken from me. I saw it. I saw the moment he was here and then… he wasn’t. My heart shattered. I don’t think it will ever fully heal. Now it’s just me and Cane. He’s the last piece of my little family. He’s still just a baby, only five months old. He has my same shape, but he’s black and white, like shadows and snowflakes. He makes me smile, even when I don’t want to. Even when the sadness creeps in. I watch over him like I always have. I still clean his ears, nudge him to eat, curl up beside him at night so he knows he’s not alone. But we are alone. In this shelter. It’s loud. It smells like fear. And worst of all, I’m terrified someone will take him from me. That I’ll lose him too. Please… please don’t let that happen. Cane and I are good. We’re gentle, kind-hearted. We like other dogs, and even cats don’t bother us. We walk nicely on a leash and love to feel the sun on our backs. We don’t ask for much—just to be together. People say we’re darling. Sweet. That we belong in a home, not behind these bars. They’ve even lowered our adoption fee just to help us find a happy ending. But to me, none of that matters if I can’t leave here with Cane beside me. I’ve already lost one baby. Please, don’t let me lose the last piece of my heart. Cane needs me. And I need him. We’re waiting. I still believe there’s someone out there who will love us both. Please… come find us. Before it's too late. Love, Creek & Cane *Guest Posting* *HUGE Discount for both!* *You can foster to adopt, foster or adopt!* If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at infoalmosthometn or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to .almosthometn. If you cannot get it to work, let us know and we will email it to you in a different format. ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees. Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee. Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
