Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. WHY is Rusty still with us? Holly molly this handsome goofball has not received a single interest since February 2025 when we rescued him. Crazy because this guy is a pretty great dog! Everyone he meets just ADORES his sweet hugs and head tilts on your shoulder or lap. They all wish they could adopt him but are at their max or unable to have dogs. He is THAT great of a sweet dog. Allow me to tell you about this lovable dog whom i have been fostering since March 2025. Rusty lives at casa de arwob since we have not found a foster for him and he is the easiest and funniest loving dog. He is a TOTAL mutt, a super mutt since he was rescued from Baja as a stray dog. What is his breed we don't know but in all honesty he likely has pitbull, chihuahua, poodle, pointer and clown as his primary genes ha ha He is already full grown at 32 pounds and approx. 2 years old as of July 2025. He has petite little paws (hence we think chi) and his eyes scream pointer, yet His brindle and face say 'hello Bully breeds" but his smart brain says poodle..his clown personality screams boxer...I guess you just have to adopt him and do a DNA test on this cutie to find out! We know Rusty VERY well and here is information about him. He has been staying at casa de ARWOB since March 2025 which means he lives in a home with many dogs and cats as fellow foster friends. He is used to many dog personalities from pups to seniors to small and large, etc. He is a healthy fully vetted dog, medically nothing to report. He loves hugs and can be very gentle, the way he tilts his head on your lap and he looks at you with THE best puppy eye look will melt your heart (honestly coming home to him on a bad day will help your heart) He is WONDERFUL with all humans men, woman and children alike. He is a very friendly personality towards dogs and is a great dog park/doggy day care dog. Rusty is the type of dog who will dance and prance when he first meets a dog and then its all about the 'please, CHASE ME and see if you can catch me!" he also loves to run with a toy to have dogs chase him. He shares dogs and food well. Has not exhibited resource guarding. He loves bully sticks and benabones. He loves to have toys like balls tossed to play fetch but mostly he will try to keep away from other dogs to try and get it. He does well with all cats/kittens. He is not allowed to stay with cats unsupervised but through the day he is mingling with them all the time. He is house, potty and crate trained. Loves car rides although he will require seat belt or tethered in the back seat or he WILL be in the front as a copilot mostly he LOVES to ride between driver and passanger seat and if he is coming back from the park and is exhausted he will lay his head behind your back (adorable!! take a look at the videos or pics) He has not exhibited a single bit of anxiety he is pretty relaxed if you come or go especially if he is in his crate. He is not a vocal dog BUT when he barks you WILL know as he has a mighty bark. He does like to occasionally dig especially at the beach or park or anywhere with an excellent patch of wet soft dirt. Rusty has been living with cats like chester and multiple kittens and for dog friends as of July are Toby, Lulu, uma, Goliath and Taffy (in case you are looking to adopt or foster a second dog ha!) Rusty can absolutely be the only dog in the home and do great but he will need to continue to socialize with dogs like parks etc, He is pretty good on leash and has not shown any leash reactivity. Summary: If you have read all the way through, congrats! we just have so much to say about this awesome dog. He will do well as the only pet or have multiple pets, as a running or just walking companion, for a retiree or single working adult, families will children will likely love him a family dog and he can chill but you will not see a dog run in a dog park FASTER than this bullet! We would LOVE to finally find an adopter for this underdog who is truly a diamond in the rough because of his 'looks' or breed no one has applied for him but EVERYONE who meets him LOVES and adores him. He is going to make you smile and laugh because he is VERY loving and funny. To adopt or foster this doggo please submit applications online at ARWBO as of 8/1/25 we are still looking for his forever humans. If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
