Very sweet, loving male Shih Tzu mix Approximate DOB 8/1/2024 – About 15 lbs This boy was scheduled for euthanasia at a local shelter after he was not reclaimed or adopted. He got listed and we had until 9 am the following day to get him out of there. Some amazing volunteers with the help of an amazing rescuer and our contact in that area were able to get to him by 8 am that morning to spring him and get him on the road to us. He came in with his brother Rocky and initially we had them together however it has become very apparent that they just can't get along. Both dogs were severely matted and dirty when the shelter got them so they did shave off the bigger mats on both thank goodness as from their original photos it looks like they had almost like matted blankets dragging behind them and covering them up. We are so grateful to the shelters who take a little time from their day to make the dogs in their care a little more comfortable. Ollie is an absolute doll!! He loves, loves, loves attention. He would do best in a home with a family that can make up for the time he was neglected outside. He has learned how to play but it is a learning process. He does get the zoomies and will run around and then come to you for love. This boy is very smart and thrives with routine. He is house trained using a dog door and crate trained. However, because he was an outdoor dog he should be kept on a leash and/or watched initially as he is still learning how to be a house dog. But so far he has not had any accidents in the house in a while. He is an amazingly loving little boy. He gets along great with small female dogs and will play chase and hang out with them. But he can do without male dogs and large dogs he thinks he is much bigger than he is. Overall he would make a wonderful addition to any loving family. He will sometimes get sad if left outside too long without you but he does have the cutest little howl to ask to come back inside it is to die for -- so cute and sweet. He is treat motivated and is just a really nice little boy. Neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations - Adoption fee $275 We do welcome out-of-state adoptions. Send an email to request the application or you can download it from the main site .almosthomenm and email it to adoptalmosthomenm Dogs are seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted and approved. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
