of/f?c=WHMSYCNC. Meet Kala! Kala is a 1-year-old pittie/terrier mix with the perfect medium build—compact, petite, and weighing in at just 43 lbs. With her sleek fawn-and-white coat, wiggly personality, and big smile, she’s as beautiful as she is lovable. Kala was born into BFPA. Her momma was a small rat terrier! Kala is crate-trained, housebroken, and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. She’s also used to spending a regular workday (6–8 hours) crated without issue. On leash, she generally walks nicely, though she may get a little excited when she sees other dogs. With consistent reminders, she redirects easily and wants to please. She’s a social girl who loves meeting new people and greets them with enthusiasm. Kala enjoys the company of other dogs—especially confident dogs, around her size or larger. With structure and boundaries, she thrives in a multi-dog home. I believe she can be respectful around cats if introductions are done slowly and properly. Kala is still young and has some puppy energy. She's not too high energy, but does require daily physical exercise. She loves chasing a "flirt pole" and it is an excellent way to stimulate her mentally, physically and create a bond with her. She has overall good impulse control, she may jump up in excitement and pull while on leash. She’d do best in a home that provides daily exercise and ongoing training, but she’s just as happy to snuggle up on the couch once her energy is spent. This smart, affectionate girl is food-motivated, eager to learn, and very responsive when her person is consistent. She would do best with someone who has dog experience and can continue reinforcing good manners as she grows. Why you’ll love her: · Crate trained & housebroken · Medium-sized, low-maintenance coat · Good with other dogs and cats (with proper introduction) · Happy, affectionate, snuggly companion · Rides well in the car and loves being close to her people Kala is looking for her forever home where she can continue to blossom into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. If you’re ready for a loyal, playful, and loving companion, Kala might be the perfect match! Applicants should ideally live no more than 60 minutes from Cary NC. For the perfect home for Kala, we would consider an adoption a bit further than an hour away. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING KALA ? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
