ini Aussie, weighing 27 pounds, with a heart as soft as her fur. She’s a gentle soul who is learning the joy of being part of a loving home and is making wonderful progress every day. When she first arrived, she kept her distance, but now she’ll quietly appear at the yard door, ready to come inside. She is still shy, yet her trust is growing and every step forward is a reason to celebrate. Freya is house-trained, great with other dogs and cats, and does well left loose in the home. She is happiest in the company of other dogs, taking cues from them on when to relax, when to explore, and when to settle in for a nap, so her ideal home will have at least one calm, confident dog to help her continue to blossom. She loves to run in the yard, take peaceful walks, splash in water, and ride in the car, hopping in all on her own, ready for adventure. On leash, she walks politely by your side. She is also learning that the crate can be a safe, cozy space, and she’s spending more time out and about as her confidence grows. While she may always prefer a little personal space, Freya is a loyal herding dog at heart who will always stay nearby, keeping a quiet, watchful eye on her people. With patience, love, and understanding, her new family will see her tail wag more and her personality shine brighter every day. If you have a calm home, a dog buddy or two, and the patience to let Freya bloom at her own pace, she will reward you with quiet companionship, gentle devotion, and the joy of watching a shy dog discover the good life. Freya is ready to be someone’s loyal shadow. Could that be you? Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
