hey come! Waldo is smart, playful, and always ready for his next adventure, whether it’s a game of fetch, a new toy to try, or learning a fun trick. He’s a total attention-lover and isn’t afraid to “chat” with you (think husky-style conversations) to share what’s on his mind. Waldo gets along wonderfully with other dogs, makes friends easily, and has great potty manners. He knows exactly when it’s time to head outside for both number 1️⃣ and number 2️⃣. Plus, he’s crate-trained and thrives on a good routine. If you’re searching for a loyal, lively, and lovable sidekick who will make you laugh and keep life exciting, Waldo is ready to win your heart. Waldo also graduated the PAWs to Prison Training Program and here is what the incarcerated trainers had to say. WALDO This is a very special little doggy. Waldo or Wallie is naturally a gentle and eager to please pup. He is super food motivated and loves training or playing the learning game. 100% Waldo could be a working dog, bird, facility, service, ext... He is still a puppy so for him to be a working dog he'll need discipline but he is the right mix of smart, eager to please, and motivated to have a real job. Or he could just be the best trained pet you'll ever have. He truly is special. Waldo's behaviors and fluency for them are: Sit: ≥ 95% out to about 30' Down: ≥ 85% Come: ≥ 40% this is new, he was at close to 90% reason for loss unknown Heel: ≥ 85% Heel me: ≥ 90% walking heel with sitting stops Shake: ≥ 95% Bow: ≥ 75% Get it (anything he can lift): ≥ 80%, 95% for toys Bring it: ≥75% if very heavy, 95% for toys Give: ≥ 95% Leave it: ≥ 75% Drop it: ≥ 80% Ready (sit and watch me): ≥85% Behaviors we didn't finish: I pull a finger gun on Waldo, he bark/wines: 10% I take wide steps and cue "through" Waldo walks between my legs multiple times as I walk: 10% Waldo is hand food safe, meaning he won't steal your sandwich. Was often trained with other dogs both off leash and stayed focused. The one warning I have for his future owners, Waldo was taught fear early, if you're ruff with him he will shut down. He is very smart and hard working, but he's sensitive to aggression and will submit if he feels threatened. Also he's still a puppy so ya, puppy's do lots of puppy things that need correction if you want him to live in your house. Not bad, just normal puppy things. But like I wrote he corrects easy.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
