occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. This "sweet" little litter- Biscotti, Nestle, Truffle, Toffee, and Teddy- had a very hard start in life. Some of you will remember our post from a few weeks back, about the puppies that were left in the heat in a rubbermaid tote with the lid on. They were left behind a dollar store and unfortunately the employees didn't notice them until around noon, after they had been stuck in the sun, without water or air flow. Sadly, one of the babies didn't make it - he just got too hot. Thankfully, the other 5 puppies survived and are doing great! They are looking for their forever homes now. These puppies are just adorable and so friendly and sweet. How someone could do that to them is something we will never be able to understand. It was cruel and inhumane. But we are so thankful they are safe and healthy now. Let's make sure the rest of their lives are spent being loved and cherished as a part of a family, and never abandoned or put in harm's way again. They are about 9 wks old currently and we are unsure of their breed - possibly black mouth cur mixed with lab? We really have no idea. They are average size for their age and will probably be around 40-50 lbs once grown. Toffee is the smallest of the litter and she enjoys her role as the "baby" sister. She is a little bit shy at first, waiting on her siblings to try new things first. She is the most cuddly of them all (although they are all pretty dang cuddle motivated!) She does like to play as well, but is a little more chill than her siblings. She will most likely be on the smaller side once grown, probably between 30-40 lbs. Located in Arkansas. These puppies can be adopted locally, or in the New England area. Transport is available, with pick ups on Saturdays in PA, NY, and CT. Adopter must be able to meet transport or arrange for a trusted friend/family to pick up. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: form.jotform/212690945239059 email apps.aasrgmail with any questions. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
