need to submit an application to Best Friend Pet Adoption. Please contact Leslie directly at lsmith3294gmail. Coco was born on 6/24/2017. She is 26 pounds and very healthy. She is up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heartworm preventative and is spayed. She is a lively and cute 8 yo Boston Terrier. Coco‘s owners were dispatched to Korea for Mission work. When in the care of a friend, she tore her ACL. The owners won’t be back for two years and were unable to deal with this from so far away. Sadly they felt they needed to find a new home for her. Coco's vet was able to find her current caregiver (Leslie) who gladly agreed to see Coco through this surgery. Coco had an ACL repair on March 6, 2025 and has made a full recovery. She is "good to go!" Leslie's comments: Now that she is well, she is too active to be in the home with my other medically needy dogs. Coco wants to play. She would love nothing better than to sit in my lap and sleep or chase a ball. She wants to be an only dog like she has always been. She does not like sharing the attention or her toys. She travels well and is well behaved. Once she warms up to you, she will be a loyal friend for life. She might take a little longer to warm up to men. But once she starts to trust them, she does fine. She is very loyal and protective of her people. Coco is extremely healthy and active, she’s affectionate, sweet, playful, high energy, and curious. She is house trained and knows some basic commands. She does not need to be crated when alone and would do well with someone who worked away from the home. She would love a fenced yard but is also used to being on a leash. She is quiet and could live in an apartment but would not be a candidate for a doggie park. DISCLAIMER: We hope you'll consider adopting COCO. She is a courtesy listed dog. This means that she is not a part of or associated with Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). The bio information listed for her was provided by her owner or care giver and not generated or verified by BFPA. Adoption arrangements will be a private arrangement between you and the owner/caregiver. As with any dog adoption, BFPA encourages potential adopters to gain as much information as possible before adopting. This includes temperament testing and verification of vet records to ensure the dog is in good health, UTD on vaccinations and has been sterilized. For more information about this deserving dog, please contact Leslie at lsmith3294gmail.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
