ind another home for our sweet little Chiweenie girl. We will not just give her to anyone. I want someone experienced and dedicated and who will love her as much as we do. Lacey will be 4 in December. We have had her since she was 9 weeks old. She is 20 lbs, fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, current bloodwork, monthly preventative and shots. Lacey is very bonded to us and it will take her some warming up to someone new. But when she does you’ll experience the joy we have with her. She does get anxious with little kids so she would need a family with older children who will be kind to her. She is very smart when it comes to giving her medicines and we have to be very sneaky! She also has to have her anxious doggy cocktail for the vet to trim her nails She loves giving hugs in the mornings and when we have been gone for a bit. She plays tug if war with her monkey toy and loves her nylabones. She is completely housetrained and we do not crate her. She loves to sleep with us and will try to cuddle on your shoulder. She also LOVES car rides! We are home with her a lot during the days and she is used to that, but I do understand most people have to work outside of the home. Here is why we have to rehome her. We have kept her for almost a year after problems started between her and our other 2 female dogs last year. She has decided that she wants the dominance in our house and she has started attacking our 10 yr old dog and 1 yr old dog. We thought maybe our older dog was sick or something because that is who she started attacking first. But our older dog’s labs came back normal. Lacey‘s also came back normal. We’ve been able to manage the fighting between her and our older dog, but during the Fourth of July weekend, our youngest dog was terrified of the fireworks and she went to hide behind our couch, and Lacey went after her. But our little dog fought back and now that’s all they want to do is fight the second they see, hear or smell each other. Lacey got through one of the baby gates and was able to tear our youngest dogs eyelid open so that was a vet emergency and traumatizing to all of us but mostly our dog. I have been sick over this and I’m very sad but it’s not any type of life for her to be separated from her family during the day because she is having an instinctual behavior to be pack leader. And our vet said it is not healthy for them living in fear. So I ask no other dogs in the house. Or possibly a small male dog? She has never been around cats. When I take her to Petsmart to walk around, on walks or to the vet, she has never even acted concerned about the other animals. But I cannot guarantee no problems down the road. No small kids at home. I’m asking a small fee for rehome. She will have her full bag of dog food, toys and bones. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
