rsquo;s Butch – one of the adorable ‘Wild Bunch’ themed pups! My sibling and I found ourselves at animal control, but we are sure happy to be with Mostly Mutts now! The volunteers are letting us know every day what it’s like to be loved and cared for like all pups deserve. Now, we are each ready to love and be loved in homes of our very own! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them and I like the dog in my foster home, too, so if you have another dog that would like a big puppy friend, let’s meet! / I haven’t met kitties yet. / I met two kids around 6 and 9 years old in my foster home and did well with them. I also recently met some kids on a day trip to the park with a volunteer and did very well, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a very friendly, energetic guy with a fun and playful nature you are sure to love. I was sweet and gentle for my shelter bath and not shy about giving appreciative kisses to my bather. I’m quite vocal and ready to say what I think, so apartment or condo living would not be the best fit for me. I sometimes get curious and pick up things that aren’t mine to chew on, but with a little supervision and a firm ‘no,’ I listen, drop the item, and am learning quickly. Playful and loving, I am sure to bring lots of joy to my new family. / My energy level is 6-8, so be ready to be active with me. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I have learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘leave it’, ‘drop it’, and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette, have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping so far. I look forward to learning more! Check back soon to see what else I have learned. I am looking for a family that will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog – so get ready for some training with your new best friend. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / My potty habits are good in my foster home. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I am a ‘people dog’ and a big ol’ cuddle bug who the volunteers say has no concept of personal space – lol. But I’ll learn – I say that “I just want to be as close to you as possible.” The play pen at the shelter is one of my favorite places to spend time with the volunteers, so I know I would love a nice, fenced yard at my new home where we can have great play sessions together. I also love belly rubs and eating ice from the freezer. A volunteer recently took me to the park, where I rode quietly in the car and loved getting pets from everyone we met on our long walk. / I can’t think of things I don’t like yet, but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and neutered. If you’re ready for the fun and excitement of having a puppy as well as the training commitment, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
