ontrol, so I’m getting a second chance at a happy life. I needed bloodwork and a good dental cleaning when I arrived and I've had those now, thanks to a generous grant from the Grey Muzzle Organization! I’m loving life in my wonderful foster home and looking forward to finding my new furever family to love! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along great with the other dogs in my foster home. I’m pretty chill and mostly do my own thing, but I don’t mind sniffing, sharing a bed, or even sometimes snuggling up with them. At times, I’m a little blissfully unaware and might step over a dog on my way to food or people (my two favorite things!), but overall, I’m easygoing and happy around canine friends, so if you have a dog, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet, but my foster thinks I’d do well with them as long as they are gentle with me. So, let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m told I have the most precious personality, and I heard my foster says that “I’m one of the sweetest and easiest fosters they have ever had.” I like that and think it’s true as nothing makes me happier than being a true lap dog. My absolute favorite thing is to cuddle as close as possible — whether that means scooting right up against your leg, climbing into your lap, or even snuggling next to your head if you’re lying down! I also love to give kisses, and since I don’t have any front teeth, my tongue is always out, ready to share my affection. I may be small and snuggly, but I still have some pep in my step — especially when food is involved — and I’ll show off my cute little trot when coming back inside after potty time. / Energy level: 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I know how to ‘sit’ and am very food and love motivated so perhaps you can teach this old girl some new tricks. / I’m not a fan of the crate and will whine for long periods of time and not settle, so no crates for me please. Instead, I do well in a cozy pen with an open top on the main level of my fosters’ home with plenty of blankets to burrow in, and I sleep there quietly until morning. I also stay in my pen when they leave the house, though I could probably be trusted out as long as food is put away since I’m curious, but not a chewer. Another option is letting me sleep with you which makes me very happy! My fosters have little stairs by the bed (and couch) so I can climb up which I love. / I do very well with my potty manners in my foster home on a frequent take-out schedule. I don’t always tell you when I need to go, instead I pace in circles on a rug as my signal. So, when you see me doing that, just call me and I’ll happily head outside with you. If not, I may have an accident on the rug. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love being around people and will follow you everywhere around the house and then nap next to you. I also love being petted, giving kisses, napping and just being a sweet little dog! I think about food a bit too much and will come over if I hear a bag rustle or food being prepared. I must have been fed table food in my former home which is likely why I need to lose a little weight. I’m smart and will remember where you put down your food or snacks and then go looking in those areas later, but please don’t give in and let me have people’s food. / I don’t like kibble (see below) or not being able to be next to you and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and attention. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. My teeth were concerning so as mentioned, I had a dental cleaning thanks to the Grey Muzzle Organization, and unfortunately only have one back tooth left – but that doesn’t bother me at all. My foster just soaks my kibble overnight in no salt broth and I eat it up just fine. I’m on an over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement which is good for all older dogs like me. I’m a precious little pup looking for a family that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
