s more convinced she’s royalty than a regular dog, and honestly, we haven’t had the heart to tell her otherwise. Beatrice came to us after being surrendered to a local shelter, where it quickly became clear she was having serious trouble with both of her back legs. She often scooted instead of walking, and we soon learned she had a condition called bilateral luxating patella, grade 4…meaning both of her kneecaps were permanently out of place. Luckily, surgery offered a fix. She’s now completed both procedures and is recovering beautifully in her foster home. After the first surgery, her ability to walk improved dramatically, and once fully healed from her second, she’ll be ready to enjoy an active, pain-free life full of walks, playtime, and cozy naps. Miss B is housebroken, kennel trained, and walks politely on a leash. She gets along wonderfully with both male and female dogs and would do great in a home with another friendly pup, or as the solo star of the show. Her number one request is simple: she wants to be near her people. Whether she’s curled up on your lap or snoozing at your feet, she’s happiest by your side. She may snore a little when she’s sleeping, but that’s just her way of telling you she feels safe and loved. Because she still has some puppy-like mouthing during play, older children would be a better match for her energy. With plenty of toys and chew bones, she’s learning to channel her excitement in all the right ways. This princess travels well in the car, enjoys new adventures, and settles in her exercise pen when home alone. What she really wants, though, is someone to love her endlessly and let her be the little lap dog she knows she was born to be. If you’ve got room in your heart and on your couch, Beatrice would love to meet you. She’s spayed, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, on preventatives, and ready to meet you. Her adoption donation is $375. Please apply directly on our website in the dropdown menu!! havenanimalrescuenebraska PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: havenanimalrescuenebraska/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
