Foster Home Feedback 10/20/25 Foster Feedback: Jerry has been with us for a kennel break for several days now. He does extremely well with our dog who can be a bit of a diva. Jerry handles her cues like a champ and doesn't bother her when she wants to left alone. He has started going to the door when he wants to go out so other than the one accident (middle of the night so I probably slept through him telling us he needed to go) there has been no issues at all. Jerry has zero reaction to our neighbors dogs on three sides of our fence. He takes treats very nicely and does not bother you when you are eating. He will just sit patiently waiting in case you want to share. He will take a bit to get used to new people as he is pretty scared of them, but with some patience he will learn to trust you and become your shadow. We are working on that so he can learn that he is brave and doesn't need to be scared of that big scary world out there. I work remotely so most of the day he is curled up by my feet, keeping me company. Jerry has not chewed on anything other then the toys we have out for him. Sometimes he likes to see what's on the counters, but listens right away when he is told no. He is extremely smart and has picked up on our routine fast. He has been left home alone-not in a crate-a few times for roughly 4 hours. There were no accidents and he basically just chilled on the couch while we were gone. We have pet cameras to check in on them. Jerry likes to play in the back yard and is learning to bring the ball back. He loves a good squeaky toy, loves to play catch and playing with our dog. Jerry would do best in a home with another dog to play with and show him how brave he is. Since he is timid he would best in a home that would be patient and let him get comfortable on his own time. 10/19/25 Volunteer Feedback: Jerry is a loyal pup with a heart full of love. He enjoys lounging on the couch and soaking up affection. He’ll play when you toss a toy, but his temperament is more mellow. His beautiful fur patterns make him stand out, and his loyal personality truly shines. Walks can make him a little nervous, but with some treats and gentle encouragement, he’s learning to explore the world with confidence. 9/10/25 Volunteer Feedback: Jerry walked so well on our morning shift today, loose leash most of the time. He's getting better every day at being brave! 8/25/25 Volunteer Feedback: I had Jerry over at my house this last weekend for a kennel break, and he was a very good boy! He is a little bit shy but warms up very quickly and is definitely very loving. I find him to be a great walker, and even when he gets a bit surprised by other dogs or sudden noises, he can redirect and keep going. Jerry doesn’t become reactive or bark. He is a very sweet boy! 8/25/25 Volunteer Feedback: Jerry is a gentle, affectionate boy who forms deep bonds with the people he trusts. While he may be a little unsure in new environments, a few kind words, a couple of treats, and a reassuring touch goes a long way. He quickly blossoms into the sweetest, most loyal companion. On walks, Jerry is attentive and connected, often glancing back to make sure you're still with him. He thrives on human connection and is happiest when he knows he’s part of your world. If you're looking for a devoted friend who will love you wholeheartedly, Jerry would love to meet you! To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: .4luvofdog

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
