Kuia – Yellow/Red Female, 7 years old, 55 lbs Well hello there new friends! My name is Kuia and it is a pleasure to meet you all! I am looking for my loving forever family, could it be you? How did a sweet girl like myself end up in rescue, you ask? I was found as a stray and this kind person took me in and helped me get to those Defenders of Dogs at LRRF. Let me tell you, it has been a dream come true! Nice kind people who pet me and play with me, a soft bed, delicious meals served regularly, treats…oh the treats!!! But it is not a dream, this is my life now! I never want to go back to that lonely stray dog life ever again. So here I am, looking for my forever family to treasure and love forever. Now, you should know that I am a total lover. I had no one to give my love to for so many years, it all stayed stored up in my heart, and finally I can let it out! I absolutely love to be by your side, lean in to you, and soak up all that love. My foster mom tells me I have a beautiful smile. I smile a lot these days – life is just so good! I love making you smile too I love being pet by my people, hugging my people, and being close to my people. I am a very smart girl and I am already house trained and crate-trained. I mind my manners when it comes to my food too, I always sit and wait by my bowl until my people tell me it’s ok to go eat. I am quite kitty friendly and enjoy the company of a feline-friend. I get along well with other dogs, but I do love my people so much, I would be totally fine as the only dog in the house too. I have a lot of stored up love to give my people, after all! Kuia is just the sweetest girl with so much love to give. She is a darling lady with a friendly and gentle demeanor, though she does get pretty excited for about 5 minutes when you come home from being out, then nap time! Kuia is an extremely affectionate and loving dog. She is all about her people, and gets along well with cats. She enjoys the company of her dog buddies in her foster home, but her main focus s her people so she would be just fine as an only dog as well – she is quite easy going! Kuia has simple needs and as an older gal, just needs a nice neighborhood walk and the occasionally leisurely game of fetch (none of those classic Labrador puppy crazies here!). She is the perfect companion dog and is happiest just being with you. Do you have room in your heart & home to make this sweetie a member of your family? Apply at .labrescuefresno to adopt Kuia! If you are interested in adopting through Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, you must first fill out an Adoption Application located at our website .LabRescueFresno All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines including rabies; flea/tick topical drops, heartworm tested and microchipped. Thank you for opting to adopt!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
