ations, but give her a couple of minutes and her happy, smiley personality shines through. This sweet girl is friendly with people and other dogs, and while she hasn’t met young children yet, she’s proven to be gentle and affectionate. Diamondette enjoys playing with the pups in her foster home or snuggled in her foster’s chair (she’s not shy about stealing your spot if it’s open!). She'd do best in a home with another dog companion to help show her the ropes. At bedtime, she curls up sweetly on the pillow by her foster’s shoulder, making her the perfect nighttime companion. Diamondette has a nice balance of energy—playful spurts followed by mellow downtime. She likes toys, rides well in the car, and is crate trained. She’ll happily rest in her crate when her foster is away and eats her meals in it, too (though she’ll politely “remind” you if dinner is taking too long!). She’s mostly potty trained but is used to potty pads in her foster home, so she’ll need a patient family to help her learn a good outdoor potty routine. Diamondette can be a little vocal when other dogs bark or when someone comes to the door, but she’s otherwise even-tempered and eager to please. After a rough start at a noisy shelter, Diamondette has proven to be incredibly resilient. What she wants most is a new family who will give her love, patience, and a soft bed of her very own. Could Diamondette be the missing piece in your home? She’s ready to shine for the family who gives her a chance! Diamondette is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 9/6/2025 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 4:30pm and 8pm. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Click here to learn more about the FTA program. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start’s veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
