n head over heels in love with. Jackie is the perfect mix of playful and chill energy for someone who wants a walking buddy who also will never turn down some cuddles. She is a well-mannered girl who could be a great pup for a first-time owner, or someone who wants a dog well past the puppy phase of life. Jackie currently weighs about 8lbs, but is slightly underweight. Jackie came to us from a local shelter. Her owner has passed away, and no other family members were able to take her in. She was nervous at the shelter, but has really blossomed in foster care and has shown us how resilient dogs can be. We have so many wonderful things to say about Jackie! She is such a lovebug who will greet you every morning with a wagging tail. She loves all people, but does seem to have a slight preference for women and quickly bonded with her foster mom. She is the perfect work-from-home buddy who will happily chill with you during work hours and make sure you get outside at least once a day for a stroll around the neighborhood. She also loves to play with toys and is a fetch master. She is a great little house guest and is a quiet girl who could do well in an apartment with appropriate exercise. She could be a great companion for a retired person or couple. Jackie has done well living with other smaller dogs, but could also do well as a spoiled only pup. We haven't seen Jackie around cats, but she may do well with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction and with proper supervision. We haven't seen Jackie around kids, but she may do well with respectful older kids. Jackie is housetrained and quickly picked up how to use a dog door. She has done well being left free roaming for short periods while her foster parents are gone, and is the type of dog that wants to sleep in bed with you. Jackie is such a wonderful little girl, and she can't wait to find her fur-ever family. If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application today! Jackie's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
