e pup, but sadly, my owner had a big life change and could no longer keep me. Even though it was hard to say goodbye, I’m so thankful that Mostly Mutts welcomed me with open arms to help me find a new wonderful home. Now I’m ready to bring my love, loyalty, and sweet spirit to a family who’s ready to love me forever! I spent some time in the prison/foster training program and learned a lot! I’m currently in a great foster home while I wait for my furever family to find me. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked playing with them. I also previously lived with other dogs, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet and see if we can be friends. / I previously lived with several kitty cats in my former home and reportedly did well with them, but all cats are different so I’m not sure how I would be with another cat. / I lived with kids in my former home, too, though I don’t recall their ages. I met two boys around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and did well with them, so if you have kids around that age or older, let’s meet. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: When I first arrived, I was really scared and unsure of everything, but once I had a little time to settle in, my true personality started to shine. I can still be hesitant at first, especially around new men and in new situations, so I’ll need extra time with those, but give me that time and my curiosity, spunky spirit, and playful energy come out. My trainer has found that it helps for me to give ‘paw’ when first meeting new people. I’m a bit of a flight risk, so my forever family will need to be extra careful — if I slip away, I may try to run off, so please keep me safe with secure doors, fences, and a well-fitted harness. I shower the volunteers I’ve gotten to know with hugs and kisses as well as cuddles and sweetness! With patience and a steady, loving home, I believe I’ll do well and will show you just how affectionate, fun, and loving I really am. All I need is someone who will give me the stability and gentle guidance I crave, and I’ll be your sweet, loyal companion. / Energy level: 6-8 so I’ll want to be active with my family. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’, ‘place’, and give my ‘paw’, too. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners. / I’m doing well in my little room at Mostly Mutts and my former owner reported that I was crate trained. In the prison/foster training program, I would choose to sleep in there at night with the door open. It is like a safe place for me. / My potty habits were very good in the prison/foster training program. My former owner also reported that I had good potty manners with them. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love spending time outside with my people sniffing all the good smells and being active with them, too. Soaking up (and giving back!) all the affection we can share is on my favorites list, too. I like treats and take them gently from the volunteers. / I can get a little unsure in new situations — especially if things move too fast or I am near loud/unexpected noises. I can be hesitant around new men — so I might growl or want to slip away, but I’ve been working on it with my trainer and have made good progress, especially when I greet new men with the ‘paw’ command. With patience, good leadership and time, I’m learning that the world (even those funny traffic noises!) isn’t so scary after all. I got a little car sick on a park trip, but with practice and shorter rides, I’m hopeful I’ll learn to enjoy car rides. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m looking for a wonderful, steady home with a good leader. My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
