ho is also available for adoption. I don’t recall how we ended up there, but we’re both thankful for this new chance of finding a furever home! We don’t have to be adopted together, as we are doing well in separate foster homes, but if you’re looking for 2 dogs, please consider us together. I came in heartworm positive, and with some other medical challenges that have been addressed (see the below medical section). I'll be treated for heartworms soon and I hope to be with my new family before treatment starts. I needed bloodwork before my spay surgery and I've had that thanks to a generous grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization – they are the best! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’d really like to have another sweet dog to hang out with in my new home! Right now, I’m enjoying hanging out with the very calm 10 lb. female Chiweenie in my foster home. When she walks up to me, my tail can’t help but wag and I’ll even give a few big, wet kisses. So, if you have another low-key dog, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a super affectionate girl who loves nothing more than being with my person or people in general as I love nice people! I’ll follow you everywhere and make sure I’m close enough to touch you when we’re relaxing together. My tail is always wagging because being by your side makes me so happy! I met a neighbor of my foster and went right to him wagging my tail and was very friendly. I’m a total love bug and couch lounger who is enjoying life to the fullest in my foster home! / Energy level: 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: It seems I haven’t been taught any commands, but you can teach me some as you absolutely CAN teach an older dog new tricks! I do listen well when my foster tells me ‘no’. / I sleep well in my crate at night without issue and I seem to go to sleep after a few minutes because I’m a good girl! During the day I get to stay out of the crate as I’ve been great about not getting into anything and have just slept on the couch while my foster is working or needs to go to the office. They do camera checks and can see that I’m being so good when they are gone. / My potty habits have been very good in my foster home - when my foster is home, there have been no accidents and when they have had to go to the office one day for 8 hours, they laid out a washable pee pad and I went on it! • LIKES/DISLIKES: I just want to be loved and to spend time with my people! I’m not much of a player, but I’m happy hanging out with you at home or in the yard watching for squirrels and sometimes chewing on a bully stick for a few minutes. / I really can’t think of any dislikes, but if I don't want to do something, I’ll just plop down and become dead weight – LOL. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations and micro-chipped. I take an inexpensive over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement that is good for all older dogs. I had masses in my mammary chains, which have been removed, and I've been spayed, making my risk of cancer returning low, so that's good! Sadly, I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention in my previous home, so I'm HW positive. The good news is that I'll be treated for that soon and Mostly Mutts will cover the cost of that with their vet. My bloodwork revealed that I should stay on a medication for my liver and my kidneys, likely for the rest of my life. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I’m a wonderful girl looking for a wonderful family to love and take care of me for the rest of my life! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
