which can be found on Walters bio page or toolkit.rescuegroups/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC FOSTER COMMENTS: Meet Walter — Your Future Adventure Buddy with a Heart of Gold! Walter is a bright-eyed, waggy-tailed 55 lb bundle of joy who’s ready to find his forever home! This sweet boy is gentle, crate trained, housebroken, and very friendly with everyone he meets — kids, adults, and other dogs included. He has a gentle soul and a playful spirit that makes him a favorite among his foster friends. Walter walks well on a leash (though he gets excited sometimes — who wouldn’t, with so much to sniff?), and he’s quiet around the house with just the occasional “woof” at someone passing by. He’s also had some exposure to cats — and while he was curious but calm, the cat in question wasn’t too thrilled about sharing space. With the right feline personality, Walter could coexist peacefully. What Walter Needs: Walter is an active guy with a moderate energy level, so he’ll thrive in a home where he can get regular exercise — whether it’s a fenced-in yard to run around in or an adopter who enjoys walks, hikes, or playtime in the park. He’d do great as an only dog or with a canine companion, but he’s still learning how to spend long hours alone — so someone who works from home or has flexibility would be ideal while he adjusts. With a bit more training, he’ll be an incredible companion for years to come. Why Walter? Because he’s gentle, loyal, loving, playful, and just an all-around great dog. Walter has all the basics down. He just needs a home that matches his energy and heart. If you're looking for a dog who’ll greet every day with enthusiasm and snuggles,Walter is your guy. ✨ Adopt Walter and make every day a little brighter. He’s ready to be your best friend — are you ready to be his? EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Walter and his sister were found as strays and BFPA took them in to help find their forever homes. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
