r home while I wait to meet my forever family – hopefully very soon! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’ve interacted with several dogs while with my foster family and have been friendly with them - even jumping up on large ones. Of course, not all dogs may like that, so please keep me safe since I’m very small. If you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / There’s an 11-year-old boy in my foster home who is gentle with me and I like him, so if you have children around this age, let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a happy and friendly little guy, small but mighty, who’s learning new things in my foster home as well as having fun. At first, the stairs felt a bit intimidating to me - going up was easy, but coming down was another story. With patience and practice, I’ve been adding a couple more steps each day, and now I’m becoming a real champ at it! / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m learning to walk on a leash with my foster family, and they report that I make everyone that I meet while walking, smile. That makes me happy! I’m sure you can teach me lots of commands if you would like to do that. / I do not like being in a crate, but perhaps I don’t need one. / I’m doing well with my potty manners with just a few accidents in my foster home, so take me out frequently and help me finish polishing up my potty training. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love my chew toys (and sometimes a slipper if no one’s looking - oops!) and nothing makes me happier than treats, especially my special after-dinner Greenie bone! Of course I love being with my people, and getting snuggles, too! / Other than being in a crate, I can’t think of any dislikes though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I have moderate tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I’m a wonderful and darling little fellow looking for a great family to call my own! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
