l, and the sweetest soul. Birdie is about 4 years old and 67lbs. Birdie is the ultimate “Velcro dog”—she wants nothing more than to be by your side during the day and curled at the foot of your bed at night. With her kind eyes, affectionate nature, and eagerness to please, she quickly wins over hearts wherever she goes. At just the right mix of smart and spirited, Birdie thrives on both love and activity. She has a high energy level, but her exercise needs can be met with a couple of good outings a day. She’s incredibly intelligent, already knowing sit, shake, lay down, roll over, stay, and even recall. She can run a basic agility course and is always eager to learn new tricks, especially if it means quality time with her person. Despite her energy, she also knows how to settle down and will happily rest at your feet after a good day’s play. Birdie has a playful side that shines when she’s chasing critters or exploring outside, and she’d be happiest in a home where she can safely enjoy off-leash time with her person nearby. She loves kids she knows and does wonderfully with cats, making her a great companion for the right family. While she can be wary of strangers and nervous around other dogs, her loyalty and devotion to her family are unmatched. This sweet girl would thrive in a home with space to run and explore, ideally with access to nature where she can indulge her love of chasing and then return indoors to snuggle. Birdie is ready to bring joy, laughter, and endless companionship to her forever family. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
