e was discovered outside a local grocery store, waiting for a second chance at life. Thankfully, Jaz caught the attention of Bones Pet Rescue, an organization devoted to caring for abandoned dogs in the area, especially since there isn’t a local animal shelter available. Though she’s still young, Jaz has already mastered crate training and loves cozy naps and peaceful nights. She's a calm travel buddy, handling car rides like a champ and soaking up all the new sights and sounds around her. With her playful nature and gentle spirit, she adores her toys and enjoys spending her days snuggling with her foster family while shadowing the resident dogs, eager to learn and partake in their adventures. So far, Jaz has shown her intelligence by quickly learning that the great outdoors is the right place for potty breaks! This sweet girl has captured our hearts, and we’re excited to be part of her journey toward finding a forever home where she will be loved and cherished. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a fun-loving spirit, Jaz is ready to fill your life with joy and affection! Jaz headed to her foster home in San Jose via a Pilots and Paws flight on September 14th, where her new foster family has named her Jaz, we had temporarily used Bones in honor of the original rescue who helped her to safety. But before her flight, Jaz joined her cohorts at Sacramento's Pet Food Express at Loehman's Plaza to celeberate Pet Food Expresses month long adoption fair where adopters get extra goodies and rescues do too. Needless to say Jaz was absolutely lovely. Jaz attended our booth in Animal Rescue Row at Bark in the Park SJ on September 20th, enjoying all the attention from our volunteers and visitors. A calm pup, she showed us that she continues her love of hanging out under things. When she wasn't interacting with visitors, she was snuggled right under her foster mom's chair. Jaz visited our vet for a health check up, got caught up on her DHPP, bordetella and lepto vaccines. A soft, gentle love bug, she snuggled into our vet's lap sharing kisses all through out her vet exam. Jaz as expected traveled easily on the short flight to SJ earning raves for her sweetness from the pilots who volunteer their time and expenses. Have you checked out our YouTube channel? We would greatly appreciate your support by subscribing, liking, and commenting on the videos we share of our adoptable shepherds in action. As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. There are many shepherds in our local shelters who require our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to open your home and share part of your life to help these dogs find new families? You provide the love, and we will provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Please complete this form: .shepheroes/foster-form, and we will be in touch as soon as possible. We appreciate your consideration.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
