binding contract. To learn more about our adoption process, please visit our Adoption Process page on our website at .rescuecrew. Hello future family! My name is Ashton, but foster mom calls me Lil’ Ash. I am so excited to meet you. I was found as a stray at just 10 weeks old (approx.) but am happy to report that I am a super well adjusted puppy. I am a confident, playful and super smart puppy. Foster mom says I will be a medium sized dog as an adult and am the cutest and fluffiest pup. Can you guess my breed(s)? I will guess a mutty-lovey-mix! I live with three resident dogs and I love them so much! I am the shadow to the male pittie-mix and curl up to sleep with the female Great Pyrenees mix. The female lab mix is the one who sets the rules so I always pay attention and grant the polite behavior she asks for. Foster mom says that I am great at intros and at following the cues of the other dogs. I am not a typical puppy...I am the perfect puppy (or so my foster mom says). I am mostly potty trained, and when I do go inside (only during the night) I use the reusable potty pad. But I can hold it like a champ. It took me a few days to realize I was staying here, so I barked for a while the first few times I was left alone in my pen, but now I love it. I have my own bed and toy bin and water bowl and I always get the best treats when I’m in there. Now…quiet as a mouse. I am super smart…I learned the household schedule amazingly fast…probably a few days. Here’s the real kicker…I have not chewed or ruined anything, and I am not nippy/biting during my teething stage. Instead, a quick “uh uh” reminds me what are sanctioned items and what isn’t, and I learn from the other dogs what is appropriate (and I am always paying attention!). I absolutely love toys! Whether they are chew toys, squeaky toys, throwing toys, or tug toys. They all have a time and place. I am learning to play tug with my human and with the other dogs…I think I am doing good holding my own! I like wrestling with my pittie “brother” and playing chase in the yard with all the dogs. I am definitely an outdoor dog, so would love a large yard to scamper around in and long hikes or camping would be fun. Sometimes just laying in the sun (or even in the rain, doesn’t matter) is fine with me. We haven’t done much official training here yet, but we do work on impulse control, which I am getting really good at. I wait for my food and treats, and when I need help I ask my human by sitting in front of her and staring. I am learning to use the potty bell on the back door and have used it myself a few times with success. I am good at sit and down and being redirected when I forget what I was doing. I eat out of a puzzle bowl…because foster mom says I can eat a regular bowl in 2 seconds so this just makes it more fun and I love a good challenge. Are you the family for me? I always have a happy face for my human and just love to be near you! Belly rubs are my absolute favorite! Foster mom says that she can tell that I just want to please the humans…get the cuddles…and eat all the treats! I would do great with any family who likes to be outdoors and/or active and who wants to help train me to be my best self. I would strongly prefer to be in a family with another dog that I can play with and learn from. Fill out an app to meet me…you won’t be disappointed! *Just a note that foster mom said that I would have stayed here as a foster fail if St. Paul allowed more than three resident dogs! She is determined to find me the bestest home ever! Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption. The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at .RescueCrew. You can also access the necessary online forms here as well.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
