enture. Not only is Peanut irresistibly cute, but he is also such a sweet boy who will melt in your lap for some belly rubs. He is a growing boy who currently weighs about 19lbs. We think he will be around 30lbs when fully grown. Peanut's previous owners loved him so much, but unfortunately, they were informed by their landlord that they were only allowed to have one dog. Peanut was surrendered to a local shelter and then came to us after he was there for a week with no adoption interest. We have already fallen in love with him and know that you will too! Peanut is a bashful guy who can take a minute to warm up, but once he does, he is the most affectionate pup who won't want to leave your side. He loves to run and play, and would be a great activity buddy for someone who likes the carefree pug personality, but wants a more active dog. He also adores cuddles and is happy to curl up on the couch after a day of fun. Peanut has some of his basic training down, like sit, but needs a family who can commit to continuing his training to help him be the best boy he can be. Peanut loves other dogs and could be a great little brother for a playful pup. He could also do well as an only dog with plenty of opportunities to socialize with dog friends. We haven't seen Peanut around cats, but he may do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Peanut could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Peanut has been doing great with his housetraining, but is still a learning puppy and will need a family who can be patient while he is learning. He has been doing well sleeping in his crate overnight and when home alone for short periods, but would do best with a family that doesn't have to leave him alone often or for long. Peanut may do well living in an apartment with plenty of daily exercise. Peanut is such an amazing little guy, and we know a family just as great as him is out there. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Peanut's adoption fee is $450. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
