ay, explore, and have some fun. He and his brothers came to us in rough shape, but with some TLC in their foster homes, they are all ready to find love. With there being four boys in the litter, we decided to name them the Fab Four Litter after The Beatles! George is a growing boy who currently weighs about 4lbs. We estimated he will be around 30-40lbs when fully grown. George and his brothers were abandoned by their owner and brought to our local shelter by the owner's housemate. The puppies were skinny and full of worms, so we were quick to welcome them into our rescue and help get them back to good health. They are pretty much supermutts and look to have a little bit of everything in their mix (maybe some chihuahua, pittie, or beagle?). They are all looking for individual homes so that they can get the one-on-one training and socialization that they need to thrive. George is the curious adventurer in the group. He is a confident guy who loves to explore and make new friends. He would love an active family who can bring him along for all things fun. His favorite activities include wrestling with his brothers, getting pets, and eating yummy treats. George is still working on all of his basic manners and needs a family committed to continuing his training and socialization to help him be the best boy he can be. George has done well with other dogs and could be a great little brother for a playful pup needing a buddy. He could also do well as an only dog with lots of opportunities to socialize with dog friends. We haven't seen him around cats, but he could do well with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction and proper supervision. George could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 7 years and older. George has been doing well with his housetraining, but is still learning and needs a family who can be patient with him and be consistent about taking him outside for potty breaks. He has been doing well sleeping in a pen with his brother overnight, and when his foster family is gone, but since he has never been alone, he will need a family who can slowly acclimate him to being comfortable being home alone. George is such a loving pup, and he can't wait to become your new best friend. If he sounds like the puppy for you, submit an application today! George's adoption fee is $350. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
