Looking Glass Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) virtual rescue, using a network of dedicated fosters throughout Louisiana and the Northeast to care for our animals until adoption. You may be required to travel if approved for adoption. Meet Louie, a spirited 1.5-year-old, 50-pound male Pitbull-Labrador Retriever mix with a stunning reverse brindle coat that turns heads wherever he goes. This curious and energetic boy had a tough start to life, losing his mom just days after birth and being dumped with another mother dog and her three puppies, likely by a backyard breeder. Despite these early challenges, Louie’s resilience and zest for life shine through. Louie’s journey hasn’t been easy. Adopted as a puppy, he was sadly returned as an adult when his first family struggled to provide the training and structure he needed to thrive. Without clear guidance on his place in the pack, Louie became protective of his family, a common trait for dogs craving leadership and stability. Unfortunately, his time in a boarding training program that relied on shock collars and separated him from his loved ones only added to his confusion, leading to his return to the rescue when his family felt overwhelmed. But Louie’s past doesn’t define him—it’s time to look forward! Now in the care of one of our dedicated foster/training partner, Louie is showing his true colors as an amazing young dog bursting with potential. His foster describes him as a loving, happy-go-lucky boy who adores couch cuddles, playtime, and soaking up affection. He’s eager to learn, quick to train, and desperate for a family to call his own. Given his rough start and previous tendency to nip at strangers and younger children due to a lack of confidence, we’re seeking a forever home with kids 15 years or older who can provide the calm, consistent leadership Louie craves. With the right family, we know Louie will blossom into an incredible companion, as his heart is already full of love and loyalty. Louie is ready for a fresh start, and we’re open to fostering, foster-to-adopt, or full adoption to ensure the perfect match. If you’re ready to give this deserving boy the chance he’s been waiting for, please reach out today. Louie’s wagging tail and bright spirit are ready to light up your life! Applications for Louie can be submitted through lgarinc/adoption-application/. Please note that you must be 25 years of age to adopt, and we reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone. All applications are subject to review and approval, and a tax-deductible adoption donation is required to be paid prior to adoption day. Please note that you must be 25 years of age to adopt and we reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone. Please be advised that we will not approve adoptions to persons who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on this application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
