on application so we can learn more about you and your household. Bluebird | 2-Year-Old Chihuahua Mix | Toy Lover Extraordinaire Meet Bluebird, a sweet and playful 2-year-old Chihuahua mix weighing about 15 pounds. With her light tan and white coat and her happy-go-lucky personality, she’s just as adorable as her name suggests. Bluebird has already shown that she’s house-trained, sleeps through the night without accidents, and quickly adapts to a household routine. This curious little pup adores toys—especially squeaky ones—chewing bones, and going for walks. She has medium-to-high energy, meaning she’ll happily join you for multiple walks a day or a good game of fetch, but once she’s had her playtime, she’s just as content to curl up on the couch for snuggles. She’s motivated by food, toys, and affection, and loves to roll over for belly rubs or rest her head on your lap. Bluebird gets along well with other small and similar-sized dogs and would thrive in a home with a playful canine companion. She should not live with cats, as she has shown chasing and growling behavior around them. While she hasn’t met children yet, her playful style can be a bit rough at times, so a home with kids 10 and older would be the best fit. Her foster family suspects she may have lived in a home before, given her good manners and quick adjustment. She does sometimes lift her back right leg when walking or running, possibly due to a common Chihuahua condition called luxating patella, but it doesn’t seem to cause her pain or slow her down. Bluebird’s ideal home is one where she’ll have another playful pup to keep her company, or a family ready to provide her with daily exercise, playtime, and plenty of love. With her affectionate nature, toy-loving spirit, and sweet personality, Bluebird is ready to bring joy to her forever family. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
