and when I first arrived, my fur was matted and my skin was a little sore in places, so I had to get a little fresh shave as you can tell from my pictures. Don’t worry though — my coat is still beautiful and will continue to grow beautifully, and with regular brushing and care, I’ll stay looking and feeling my best! I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off-site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met some other dogs at Mostly Mutts and seemed a little dominant, though not aggressive, I just tried to mount them a bit, and not all dogs will appreciate that, but it’s correctable, so if you have a dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I met kids at Mostly Mutts that were around 10 years old and liked them. I was a tad jumpy, so kids 10 and older will be best. No toddlers or very young kids that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a super sweet and friendly guy with tons of happy energy to share! I get so excited when I see the volunteers coming my way and can hardly contain my joy. I love giving sweet kisses and soaking up attention, and while I can be jumpy and extra wiggly on the leash, I’m learning with time and training. Bath time? I started out a little unsure of the sprayer, but once I settled in, I was calmer, gentle, and even leaned in for some love while my bather talked to me. I do get a little too enthusiastic sometimes and may try to mount people, but I’ve been neutered and with guidance and training, that should improve. I’m curious, active, and full of good-natured fun — just waiting to share all that love with my forever family! / Energy Level: 5-7 with bursts of higher energy. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program where I have learned the ‘come’ and ‘drop it’ commands. I look forward to learning a lot more with my trainer! Check back soon to see what I've learned. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / I’ve had accidents on the shelter schedule, so I may need to go out a little more often. Please keep me on a good schedule with rewards, so I can master my potty manners. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love chasing a ball around in the play yard, spending time with people, and staying active with fun playtime! I’m sure we’ll find lots of other fun things we’ll enjoy doing together, too! / I can’t think of any dislikes but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m receiving medicated baths for a little longer and these can be done in my new home. I’m a sweet and fun-loving dog looking for a wonderful family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
