. Don't let his age fool you, Boo loves to run, play fetch, and wrestle with his dog friends. He is the perfect mix of adventurous and cuddly and is the sweet boy around. Boo is fully grown and weighs about 17lbs. Boo was found as a stray with a fractured shoulder, possibly after being hit by a car. He was brought to a local shelter, but after no one came to claim him, he was transferred to us so we could help him heal. Unfortunately, while we tried to save his leg, the fracture didn't heal like we hoped. To avoid him being in any pain, we decided to amputate his front left leg. Boo has adjusted well to being a tripod and is more than capable of doing all the things a four-legged dog can do. Boo is a true charmer who is quick to win your heart with his affectionate personality and adorable big brown eyes. He bonds very strongly and is very much a little lap dog who adores cuddle time. He can be a little barky when he first meets new people, especially men, but he is quick to warm up, and he will request endless pets. Boo loves playing fetch and playing with squeaky toys. He is also a big fan of treats and is happy to help you finish any meals you need help with. Boo is a well-mannered guy who has his basic manners mastered. He is great on leash and loves his daily strolls around the neighborhood. Boo loves other dogs and has become BFFs with the Brittany spaniel in his foster home. He even attended one of our puppy play groups and was such a sweet boy with all the crazy puppies. He would love another dog to play with in his new home, or the opportunity to have lots of dog friends. Boo needs a kitty-free home. Boo has been doing great in a home with older kids and could be a wonderful addition to a home with kids 10 years and older. Boo is housetrained and is happy to hang out in his crate or free roaming when home alone. He is content to sleep in his crate overnight, but does prefer to be cuddled in bed with you. Boo could do well living in an apartment with proper daily exercise. Boo is such an amazing guy who we all adore, and we can't wait for his forever family to fall in love with him like we have. If he sounds like the sidekick you need in your life, submit an application today! Boo's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
