e an amazing addition to a loving family. He is thriving and learning family life in his foster home. We think he would love to have a family with another friendly dog but could also be an only dog and get all the attention and cuddles. Chocolate Chip is just the perfect balance of sweet, friendly, cuddly, playful, gentle and laid back. This is a great puppy who will be a wonderful dog. Chocolate Chip "Chip" may be a 8-week-old puppy but he’s not just an ordinary puppy...he’s an exceptional puppy! He has got a lot to offer for a family that’s interested in raising a puppy. He is a Chihuahua mix that is a grey flecked with black accents, a white chin and chest with three white toes, tipped ears and soft brown eyes. He has oodles of puppy enthusiasm. He’s joyful, friendly, energetic, playful, affectionate, and curious. He absolutely loves all people. Everyone is welcomed with tail wags and kisses. He’s smart and highly motivated by tummy rubs and cuddles, since he wants to please there seems to be no end to what he could be trained to do. He loves to play with his brother and sister and loves his toys... particularly stuffed toys. In spite of being playful he also loves to snuggle. He is learning to potty outside and is crate trained. He sleeps through the night in his crate. He weighs 3.75 pounds. If you think Chip might be the family member you are missing, please complete an application on our website and his foster mom will be in touch. He is looking for a family with the time and patience to teach him to be the best puppy he can be where he will be a loved member of the family forever. If you are looking for a new family member and think he might be the one, please complete an application on our website and his foster mom will be in touch. He is UTD on vaccinations. The adoption fee is $325.00 and covers his neuter next week, three sets of vaccinations, de-wormer, first dose of heartworm preventative and microchip. Please apply at: legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Therefore, if you are interested in adopting from LHS, please complete an online application at legacyhumanesociety/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ and we will contact you asap about the status of your application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
