Bryson is a 4.5-year-old, 26-pound Yorkie mix with a happy personality and a cute curly tail that wags whenever you look his way. He has a medium energy level and quickly settled into his foster home, where he happily follows his person everywhere. Bryson loves attention, spins in circles when excited, and sits patiently on a bathroom mat while you get ready for the day. He is primarily housetrained and wore a belly band briefly during his adjustment period, but that habit stopped quickly once he settled in and was neutered. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night and even goes in on his own when he wants to rest, though he probably doesn’t need to be crated at all. He enjoys plush toys, car rides where he rides calmly tethered in the passenger seat, and of course, being near his people. Bryson also knows a couple of basic commands like “sit” and comes when called by name. Bryson is a gentle, happy dog, though he can be a little jealous when another dog gets attention and may bark to make his feelings known. He currently lives with another dog, and while there’s no aggression, he would do best either as an only dog or with a more submissive companion. He is not a big barker overall, which makes him a joy to have around the house. Bryson has some mild vision impairment and slight allergies to grass, but neither slows him down—he adjusted to stairs within days and gets around just fine. He was pretty good for the groomer also. Bryson would thrive in a home with someone who is around most of the day to give him the love and attention he craves. In return, he’ll offer loyalty, companionship, and endless tail wags! Meet this dog at Petco on Saturday, Oct 4th from 1-4 pm CST at Petco, 377 W. Jackson St #11 Cookeville, TN 38501. Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
