Kaitlyn | 1.5-year-old Border Collie Mix | Your Adventure Buddy with a Big Heart Meet Kaitlyn, a sweet and playful Border Collie mix who is eager to find her forever home after spending seven months in an Oklahoma shelter. At 43 pounds, she’s the perfect size for an active family and is always ready for adventure, whether that’s a walk, a hike, a game of fetch, or a car ride. Kaitlyn is smart, affectionate, and quick to learn. She’s almost fully house trained and is picking up leash manners, though she still likes to weave from side to side. She does well in her crate, especially with another dog in the house, and settles down after a little initial whining. She absolutely adores other dogs, enjoys the company of kids of all ages, and loves meeting new people. Cats are more of a curiosity to her - she’s mostly interested but a little unsure. Kaitlyn’s favorite activities include playing with toys, chewing on bones, going for walks, and snuggling up for belly rubs. She’ll often rest her head on you, offer her paw for attention, or even army crawl to make you laugh. While Kaitlyn does get excited and may jump up to greet people, she’s already improving with guidance and thrives with structure and consistency. With 1–2 hours of daily activity, she’s happy to relax by your side and soak up affection. After her long wait, Kaitlyn is ready to be the five-star companion she was meant to be. She would do especially well with an active family who can give her plenty of exercise, love, and cuddles. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
