d for a while, until a kind group of people safely trapped me and my friend Tina and got us to animal control. Then Mostly Mutts came for both of us and we’re settling in nicely now, enjoying all the love and care we’re each receiving, and we can’t wait to each find our forever homes! I have the kind of fur that keeps growing, so I’ll need regular grooming, and I needed a good haircut when I arrived. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with another dog but haven’t met new dogs at Mostly Mutts yet, so let’s meet! I do seem to walk better on my leash when I’m behind another dog. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no very young kids as I may try to slip out a door until I feel safe and sound in my new home. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a gentle, sweet and somewhat timid pup who’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. At first, I may be shy and even a little fearful, so please go slowly with me and give me time to trust. During my bath, I leaned against my bather for comfort and looked up with soulful eyes, for reassurance, and I’ve been showing more and more of my sweet side as I come around. I may need some extra caution around doors at first, so I know I’m truly home and safe, but with patience and love, you’ll see my shy smile and discover the loyal companion I’m meant to be. / My energy level is currently 3-5, though it may increase as become more comfortable in my new home. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I haven’t been tested on any commands yet, but I will be soon. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / My potty manners have been good at the Mostly Mutts shelter. • LIKES/DISLIKES: Let’s find lots of things we’ll like doing together. / I’m not interested in toys yet, but who knows – maybe in the future. I wouldn’t want to be rushed or live in a loud environment and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m looking for a loving family that will allow me some time to settle in and love me furever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
