of our dogs, please see HERE Age: 4 months (as of 9/13/25) Weight: 8 lbs (as of 9/25/25) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet Harli, a delightful puppy with a heart full of joy. Harli and her sisters Haven and Hatti and brother Hulk can’t wait to meet you! We are thinking these playful pups are a Chihuahua and Dachshund (aka Chiweenie) mix. This sweet, friendly, and goofy girl loves nothing more than playing with kids and other dogs. Harli's gentle and playful nature makes her a perfect companion for any family. Despite her shyness, she's smart and quick to learn new tricks, especially if toys are involved. Harli's ideal home would be one where she can flourish with love and play. Being just puppies, they will have so much to learn! They'll need house training, crate training and will need to learn to walk on a leash. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog. Adopting Harli, or one of her littermates, means bringing home endless fun and a loyal friend who’s eager to share her love and playful spirit with a family that cherishes her. Medical Note: This puppy was born to a mother dog who was positive for heartworm disease and had circulating microfilaria. Microfilariae can be transmitted from mothers to unborn puppies through the placenta; these worms, however, will not develop in the puppy into adult heartworms because the heartworms must pass through a mosquito to fully develop. Microfilariae may live up to two years within the host dog in whom they were born, but they should be eliminated when the puppy received its first dose of heartworm preventative. This puppy has been given heartworm preventative regularly while in SOS care, but to ensure that any remaining microfilaria are fully eliminated and the risk to other dogs (via mosquitos) is minimized, SOS recommends that the puppy be kept on Advantage Multi or Parasedge (imidacloprid + moxidectin) for monthly heartworm preventative for at least the first three months after adoption. This product provides protection from heartworm disease as well as fleas, but another tick preventative (oral) should be used. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: Adoption Application - SOS Animal Rescue League in Rhode Island (sosarl) **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
