d for a while, until a kind group of people safely trapped me and my friend Tori and got us to animal control. Then Mostly Mutts came for both of us and we’re settling in nicely now, enjoying all the love and care we’re each receiving, and we can’t wait to each find our forever homes! I got to go for a spend-the-night and day trip with a nice volunteer which I enjoyed. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with another dog but haven’t met new dogs at Mostly Mutts yet, so let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no very young kids as I may try to slip out a door until I feel safe and sound in my new home. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a very sweet girl who just needs a little time to feel safe and comfortable. At first, I can be shy and a bit fearful, but once I warm up, my gentle and friendly side shines through. Volunteers say I’m very cute, sweet, and worth the extra time it takes to earn my trust. I even got to spend the night with a kind volunteer, and that helped me show just how much I want to bond with people. I was still jumpy with loud noises or sudden movements, but I grew more trusting as we spent time together. My calm and sweet temperament started to shine, and I really enjoyed having someone close by. Because I’m still learning to feel secure, I’ll do best with someone who isn’t gone for long hours — at least in the beginning and I may need some extra caution around doors at first, until I know I’m truly home and safe. With patience and love, I’m blossoming into a wonderful, loyal companion. / My energy level has been around 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I don’t seem to know any commands yet, but you can teach me! I am pretty good walker on my leash, though I still duck a little when a leash goes over my head — not nearly as much as I used to. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts, and in the home I visited, I looked at the crate as a nice safe spot where I’d hang out on soft blankets with the door open. / My potty manners have been pretty good on the shelter schedule with a few accidents, and I did well for the spend-the-night. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I feel happiest when I’m near the person I trust, and I love to be touching them if I can. Soft plushy toys are my favorite – I’ll even carry them into my crate just to snuggle with them. I also rode wonderfully in the car, staying calm and still the whole way for my spend-the-night and a day trip I took. / Loud noises and quick movements can make me nervous, and I may bark when I can’t see my person. With time and trust, I’m hopeful that it will get better. I wouldn’t want to be rushed or live in a loud environment and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I’m looking for a loving family that will allow me some time to settle in and love me furever! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
