adies are a bonded pair and will only be adopted together—they’ve spent their lives side by side and find comfort in each other’s company. Both are calm, affectionate, and ready to enjoy the slower pace of their golden years in a home where they can relax and be loved. Duchess Queenie, affectionately nicknamed “Dainty Duchess,” is a sweet, sensitive soul. She’s a bit shy at first and has taken her time to blossom in her foster home, but she’s showing more of her personality every day. She adores her “stuffies” and will carry them from room to room, sometimes settling down to gently suckle on them before drifting off for a nap. Duchess is housetrained, walks nicely on a leash, and does well in the car. She’s not a big snuggler but enjoys quiet companionship and following her person around the house to see what’s going on. Loud noises and thunderstorms can make her uneasy, so she’ll do best in a peaceful home without a lot of chaos or commotion. Roxy Star—nicknamed “Ellie” by her foster family—is the more outgoing of the two. She’s easygoing, friendly, and has a playful streak that shows up in the cutest ways. She’s known for swinging her head like a little elephant when she’s being silly or trying to communicate, and she has an adorable “whisper bark” she uses to talk to you. Roxy gets along well with adults, kids, and other large dogs, though she does best in a calm setting. Like her sister, she’s housetrained, good on a leash, and happy to snooze the day away on the couch. She’s experienced a mild vestibular episode in the past but has recovered well. Due to her age, she occasionally shows a bit of stiffness in her joints, but she’s still happy to go on leisurely walks and enjoys being part of the household activity. Together, Duchess and Roxy are the perfect pair for someone who loves the grace and gentleness of senior Great Danes. They’re content with a backyard for light exploring and a home that offers soft places to rest, a predictable routine, and plenty of quiet affection. Their ideal home would be a calm, low-key environment where they can enjoy their retirement side by side. They’re easy to have around, polite, and full of quiet charm. In return for love and care, these two ladies will bring peace, companionship, and a deep, steady bond that only lifelong sisters can share. If you’ve been looking for a pair of gentle giants to fill your home with calm companionship and quiet affection, Duchess Queenie and Roxy Star are ready to meet you. ========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! form.jotform/51994996709176 . 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
