NO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Bruno Best Guess for Breed: Poodle and golden retriever mix ("goldendoodle") Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of October 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 67 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get on a freedom flight up here! Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Bruno would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure he can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Bruno is Looking For: Hi! I'm Bruno. I'm a young pup who hasn't seen nearly enough of the world and I can't wait to do that by my humans' side! The shelter staff say I'm "high energy" and if that means I need lots of running and playing time, I agree! Just walks and time in the backyard won't be enough for me - nosiree! I want to explore the world - hiking mountain trails sounds cool to me. And I want lots of time with pup pals! Going to dog school would be great, too, so I can show how super smart I am. And see my coat? That;'s a doodle coat. They are super high maintenance - I need daily brushing plus regular professional grooming. I get matted very easily. and mats hurt! I don't have opposable thumbs so I need humans who are committed to taking care of that. In exchange, what do you get? I'm a super smart, active, all-around awesome dog ready to be right there by your side on all your adventures. I'll be a great addition to an active home. And above all - I promise love and loyal companionship for all my days. What do you say? Do I get to go home with you? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog . Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
