n your heart with her big brown eyes and bubbly personality. She wants to be everyone's friend and is a great cuddle buddy. Paisley is fully grown and weighs about 14lbs. Paisley came to us from a local shelter after she was found as a stray. She was found with three other pug mixes, all of which went to other rescues. Based on her behavior, we think she was kept in her crate a lot and wasn't trained or socialized. She has really blossomed in foster care and can't wait to find her fur-ever home. Paisley has the goofy and sweet personality that all pug lovers adore. She is a good mix between playful and couch potato and is happiest when she can be with her people. She recently came to an adoption event at a UCD women's soccer game and loved getting all the attention from anyone who came by. Paisley is still learning all of her basic manners and needs a family committed to helping her learn. Paisley loves other dogs and has done well living with dogs of all sizes. She has also done well living with dog-savvy cats. Paisley loves kids and could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 5 years and older. Paisley is still working on her housetraining. She has been harder to train than most dogs, probably due to being punished in her previous life. She needs a family who can be patient with her and expect lots of accidents while she is adjusting and learning. Paisley is crate-trained and is happy to hang out in her crate when home alone. She has done well being crated overnight, or sleeping in bed with you if you let her. Due to being a pug mix, Paisley can be prone to some breed-related health issues. We encourage anyone interested in adopting her to first familiarize themselves with the health issues commonly seen in pugs and pug mixes. We highly recommend her new family to invest in pet insurance. Paisley is such a wonderful little girl, and whoever adopts her is going to be very lucky to have a pup as sweet as her. If you think that might be you, submit an adoption application on our website, yolospca/adopt! Paisley's adoption fee is $500. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
