r people and dog friends. Juneau came to us as a young puppy after being raised on the streets. She has blossomed in foster care and is now ready to find her fur-ever home. Juneau currently weighs about 60lbs and may grow a little bit bigger. Juneau was transferred to us from our friends at BONES Pet Rescue. She was found with her three brothers on the nearby Native American reservation without their mom. After some TLC with BONES, the puppies were transferred to us. The three boys have been adopted, so now it's Juneau's turn to have her happy ever after ending. Juneau is a bashful and submissive girl who will need a patient family. She is shy of new people and unsure of new things and being in new places, but once you earn her trust, she is such a wonderful companion. She loves cuddles on the couch and will happily keep you company while you work from home or get chores done around the house. Food is definitely the way to her heart. She is starting to go on walks and has been doing better and better every day. Juneau is a goofy puppy who loves playing - especially with the other dogs in her foster home. She will need a committed family that understands that she needs lots of time to build trust. We are looking for someone with large-dog experience, extra points if you have owned a fearful dog before. Juneau loves other dogs and has been a great playmate to lots of other foster puppies who have been cared for in her foster home. Having a confident dog buddy really helps Juneau feel safe, so she will need a friendly dog sibling in her new home to help her succeed. Juneau currently lives with dog-savvy cats and can be pretty obnoxious trying to play with them. With a slow introduction and proper supervision, she may do well living with other dog-savvy cats, but would be too much to live with shy cats. Juneau has been doing well living with teenagers. Juneau is house and crate trained. She is happy to sleep in her crate overnight and hang out in there during the workday. She needs a home with a backyard and would do best in a quiet neighborhood, as she will alert you to unknown noises outside. Juneau deserves to find a great family to love her as much as we do. If you think that might be you, fill out an application today! Juneau's adoption fee is $300. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogsyolospca. For more general questions, please see our website at .yolospca.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
