f/f?c=WHMSYCNC or at bfpa. Meet Lucy – the sweetest, most easygoing companion you could ask for! Lucy is a gentle, affectionate 10-year-old girl who’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by people who appreciate her quiet charm. She’s the perfect mix of independent and affectionate — happy to hang out near you while you work or relax, and always ready for a cozy snuggle or a back scratch (especially if you’ll make a leg bridge for her to crawl under!). Lucy is completely housebroken and crate trained — in fact, she loves her crate and often goes there on her own for naps. The only reason she’s crated when her foster family leaves the house is because she’s can be a counter-surfer to help keep the kitchen clean by reminding her humans to tidy up! She has a calm, steady energy level: mostly a laid-back “potato” indoors, but she perks right up when it’s time for her daily walks. Lacey walks beautifully on leash, especially with a front-clip harness, and enjoys 1–2 mile strolls with her fosters. She’s quiet, well-mannered, and perfectly content in any living situation — whether it’s a house with a yard or an apartment with regular leash walks. Lucy has lived peacefully as both an only dog and with another canine companion, and she’s generally polite but reserved when meeting new dogs. She’s a little timid in public, but she warms up quickly to visitors in her home. She hasn’t been around cats, but she’s so calm and gentle that she’d likely adjust well with the right introduction. Because Lucy values calm and predictability, she would do best in a home with adults or teens rather than young children. She’s quiet, low-maintenance, and incredibly loving — the kind of dog who brings comfort and warmth to every room she’s in. If you’re looking for a loyal, gentle soul who’s past the puppy chaos and ready to simply be your best friend, Lucy is your girl. She’ll make every day a little softer, a little calmer, and a whole lot sweeter. ❤️ EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Lucy was adopted from Best Friend Pet Adoption as a young puppy. Her family gave her a great home but as they expanded their human family, Lucy had a hard time adjusting to having toddlers around. Her family felt that Lucy (now called Lacey) would do best in a home without children. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. We prefer applicants that live no further than one hour from Cary NC. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore prefer applicants that live close to Cary NC. For the perfect home for Lucy, we may consider applicant who live a bit further away. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING LUCY? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
