rld. Get ready for a stellar friend who will orbit by your side and brighten every day! He is a fun-loving sweetheart and affection is his middle name. Apollo is a handsome white and brown Great Pyrenees Shephard mix who is the friendliest, most happy dog you will ever meet. He is around 3.5 years old. He is about 84 pounds currently and at his full-grown weight. Apollo loves everyone he meets. He is great with other dogs, making him an excellent companion for households with canine siblings. Apollo also interacts very well with children, showing patience and a playful attitude that makes him a perfect family pet. Apollo even does well interacting with cats which he has demonstrated in his foster home. With the right family and a nurturing environment, Apollo will quickly thrive in his new home. He is still working on his crate training skills, so his new family should be patient and consistent as he learns. Because of his large size, Apollo would definitely enjoy a secured backyard where he can run and play freely. It will provide a safe space for him to energize and relax while enjoying the outdoors. Open and secure outdoor space is a plus, but another plus is that Apollo is leash trained. As a large dog with proper walking skills, Apollo aims to please. With pleasing as a goal, Apollo has also learned his housetraining skills. Giving him the right space and guidance will help him thrive and become a happy, well-adjusted member of your family. Although Apollo is housetrained, accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Apollo has definitely spent enough of his life waiting for his forever family, and he truly deserves a loving home. When you meet him, you will quickly see his gentle nature and playful spirit in action. Check out his sweet smile that will warm the soul. Take the opportunity to get to know Apollo and see if you are the perfect match for each other. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Apollo is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
