ow I’m in a wonderful foster home while I wait for my new family to come and adopt me! Perhaps you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I’m playful with the two dogs that are in my foster home and will follow them around the house, too. So, if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet! / I’ve been friendly and curious with the kitty in my foster home and seem to want to play with them, but I have also been respectful of the paw swat. All cats are different, so I’m not sure how I would be with another cat. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over or that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My foster and the shelter volunteers report that I’m a good boy! I’m playful, loving, and smart — but also calm, gentle, and quiet when it’s time to relax. I enjoy meeting new people and other dogs on my walks, greeting everyone with my friendly nature. Snuggling and sitting on laps are some of my favorite things, and I can never get enough scratches and love. I was even told I was “handsome and the favorite of the day” during my photo shoot — what a compliment! I try to be brave for everything, even baths, and I think you’ll find I’m just a super sweet, well-behaved companion ready to make someone very happy. / Energy Level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home I’ve shown that I know the ‘sit’, ‘wait’, ‘break’, ‘come’, ‘off’, and what the word ‘no’ means. I look to my foster for direction, and I walk well on my leash, too. / In my foster home I go into my crate when asked to and I also go in it on my own for naps and down time. / I marked a few times in my foster home the first couple of days, but have stopped that now and I’ve been going to the door and sitting when I need to go potty. They also have me on a good schedule, so I think I’ll do well in my new home, too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m a playful pup who enjoys chewing on some Nylabones and games of tug with my toys. Running with and playing chase with the other dogs in my foster’s backyard is also good fun, and I really enjoy my walks, too. When playtime’s over, I turn into a total snuggle bug — cuddling up on the couch with my foster family and sneaking my way past the other dogs so I can be closest to my person. / I’m not a fan of riding in the car, but with practice, I hope to improve. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m looking for a wonderful family to have fun with and be loved by! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
