a bad situation. Sweet Marky Mark was passed around Boston for the first 5 months of his short life and finally given to a good Samaritan after sustaining a bite on the nose from another dog and developing an infection that his owner could not care for. This family made sure he received top-notch vet care and was committed to finding him a great home. Because of his lack of vaccine history, and an unknown history of the dog who bit him, Marky has been on a 4-month quarantine but is officially free and clear and is looking for love! He has been in a foster home with us since July, so we have really gotten to know him, and what an outgoing, friendly, ambitious, and energetic pup he is! Marky Mark is your typical puppy, with playful energy and a bit of a Wildside! He likes to fetch and catch, will hip-hop around the yard in zoomie fashion, loves his chew toys (especially benebones!), and loves playing with his foster sister. And at 42 lbs is such a great size! He has excellent manners and will bring one of his toys as a host offering to any houseguests who drop by. Besides being talented and gracious, this handsome youngster has stunningly good looks with gorgeous olive-colored eyes that make all the ladies swoon. Marky Mark is free-spirited and spunky, bright and joyful, clever and inquisitive. He is a happy guy and an eager beaver to please. And it never hurts that he likes any and all treats. He can be curiously apprehensive around new things, like mums or Halloween decorations that weren’t in the neighborhood on his last walk. It takes 3 times walking by, then he realizes they belong and ignores them. He is truly a Puppy for the People and would thrive in many different types of homes. It was rumored he lived with cats and recently did wonderfully by ignoring the cats in a home he visited for a day. He is 100% housebroken and quickly learned to ring the backdoor bells to let his fosters know he needs to go out. And he curls up to snuggle hard at the end of the night on the couch to watch TV. In fact, you will find him hanging out in whatever room his humans are in. Marky Mark just needs a Funky Bunch to call his own! Due to his lack of history, older kids would be best for this young star. Marky Mark’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family who appreciates cuddle time on the couch as much as he does! 2. A family who is committed to taking Marky to a basic manners class to continue to teach him good habits and make him into the best pup ever 3. An active family who wants to include this special man in their adventures on a walk or hike, or with dedicated playtime.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
