is the perfect compact size for snuggling on the couch and scooping him up for an adventure. He loves to be out and about, making new friends wherever he goes. Brody is fully grown and weighs about 20lbs. We do think that he is a tad underweight and would benefit from gaining a couple of pounds. Brody came to us from an overcrowded animal shelter in Central California. Due to no fault of his own, he was placed on the euthanasia list, and we were so grateful that one of our foster families stepped up to take him in so that we could save him. Brody has happily settled into foster life and has quickly won all of our hearts. Brody is he best of both worlds. He loves to play and explore, but also can hang out and be your mellow working-from-home buddy. He is a moderate-energy guy who will never let you forget to get out of the house at least once a day for his daily walk. Brody has a fun-loving personality and will make you smile with his goofy antics. He is a well-mannered guy, but he is still learning all of his basic training, especially leash manners, so he will need a family committed to continuing his training. Brody has done great living with other small dogs. He knows how to play with the younger dog and to be gentle with the older dog. He would love to live with another easy-going pup, but he could also do great as your one and only. We haven't seen Brody around cats, but he may do well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. Brody could be a wonderful addition to a family with kids 7 years and older. Brody has been doing great with his housetraining, but may have a few accidents in a new place. His new family will need to be consistent about taking him outside to potty to help him adjust to a new environment and routine. Brody has been doing well sleeping in a crate at night, but also wouldn't mind sleeping in bed with you if you let him. He has also been doing well hanging out in his crate for a few hours at a time during the day. He will whine for a little bit, but then he is happy to settle in and nap. Brody may do well living in an apartment with proper daily exercise. Brody is such a great guy, and we know he is going to make a family very happy. If you think that might be you, submit an application today! Brody's adoption fee is $250. Apply to adopt here! form.jotform/52017002013129/ Applications are also available on the website (.yolospca) It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
