o;m very happy to be here getting the good care and love I desire. I’m in a great foster home while I wait to meet my new family, hopefully soon! I came in with a light heartworm positive test (see medical section below for information about that). • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I get along great with the friendly female dogs in my foster home (haven’t met male dogs yet) and love playing with them! I’d likely do well with another nice, patient dog friend. I do sometimes guard high value treats from other dogs (not from people), but I share my toys and food just fine. A proper introduction with any new dog would be best to make sure we’re a good match, so let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that may fall on me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m the kind of pup who just wants to be where my people are - truly your little shadow and biggest fan! I adore everyone I’ve met so far, whether you’re family or a brand-new friend walking through the door. I’m a happy, friendly sweetheart with lots of enthusiasm for life. If you're looking for a joyful companion who brings love, smiles, and loyalty wherever he goes, I might just be your perfect match! / In my foster home, my energy level is around 3-5 with bursts of energy! At the shelter, it was around 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’ve learned the ‘sit’ command in my foster home and they believe that I’ll pick up on commands quickly, so let’s do some training together! / The crate is initially not my favorite place, and I will bark a little, but in my foster home I do settle and go to sleep. I, however, would not like to spend a lot of time in a crate. / I had a few accidents on the shelter schedule, but since going to my foster home, I’ve done well. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love toys, chew bones, and snuggling up right next to my people - I'm a really affectionate guy! I also enjoy playing with my foster siblings and going on nice, short walks and you’ll likely notice that I aways seem to be smiling. / Other than sharing high value treats with other dogs and initial crate time, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I tested very light heartworm positive, so I’m doing my pre-treatment regiment for 60 days and then will be retested. If I test positive, I’ll be treated for this, and MM will pay for my treatment, so local adoption only. I hope to be with my new family before treatment starts if I need it. If you’re a fun, sweet family looking for the same in their dog, we could have loads of fun together! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
